Shelby Holt is a softball player who has loved the game since she was little. She started playing when she was just 4 years old. Back then, she was very shy, so her parents signed her up for sports to help her open up. It ended up helping her a lot.
She plays first base, third base, and pitcher. She likes these positions since she is always in action because that is where most of the hits go.
One of her biggest softball moments was when she was on a 14U team and they won the World Series in Panama. She says her parents are her biggest role models because they push her to do her best.
Her family is what keeps her going. They come to her games and support her, so she wants to make them proud. One of her favorite memories is helping at a softball camp. A younger girl told her she felt like she wasn’t good enough. She told the girl not to give up because she had felt the same way before. Later, the girl’s mom said she really helped her. That moment made her realize she wants to help others love the sport.
She works hard to balance school and softball. She finishes her schoolwork early in the week so she can focus on games later. She also spends time with her family on weekends and helps her dad with her sister’s practice.
One hard thing she went through was an ACL injury. When she first came back, she was scared to play. But over time, she got her confidence back and learned that her injury doesn’t define her.
Her goal this season is to have fun and not stress too much. Her advice to younger girls is simple: “never give up, even when things get hard.” She is not just a great player, but also a kind and inspiring person.
