Senior running back Micah Godfrey, who was also recognized as the Offensive Most Valuable Player in team awards, found his love for football in an unexpected way. “I started playing football because the school I went to didn’t have a soccer program,” he said. “Despite that, I fell in love with it ever since.”
For Micah, the game is about more than wins and losses. “What I love most about the game is the bond we create as players and coaches, how we push each other to do better while developing that bond as brothers,” he shared.
One of his favorite moments came from seeing the people around him. “Seeing the community coming out to show their support just shows how much everyone loves the game,” Micah said. “Having my family out there after every game as well—and breaking and setting records—is one of the best moments also.”
Before each game, Micah prepares both mentally and physically. “Having all that pressure on your shoulder can be a big distraction,” he said. “But you have to find a way to handle those situations… listening to music helps me a lot especially before a game.”
As a running back, he enjoys the challenge. “What I enjoyed most about it is having the ability to see the field and make decisions, and react quickly to situations that are going to benefit both you and the team,” he said.
Balancing school and football takes effort. “The truth is— it’s kinda hard trying to balance both,” Micah admitted. “As a student athlete, I developed a schedule to handle both work, making sure my schoolwork is completely done on time.”
Micah has also grown a lot this season. “I definitely say having a little patience especially running the ball and letting things develop,” he said.
He doesn’t have serious rituals before games but likes to relax. “I watch TikTok before every game and make sure my body is relaxed, stretched up, and ready,” Micah said. “Praying before our game can be considered one of my pre-game rituals.”
When asked what advice he’d give to younger players, Micah said, “As an athlete life is all about competition and fighting for what you want in life. You gotta have respect, be humble, be coachable, and willing to learn. Don’t be scared to compete and always push yourself to be better than you were yesterday.”
