A record breaking football season leads to individual awards. Dalton Blackburn won a Tennessee FCA All-State Team Award. When asked how he qualified for this award he said, “You just work really, really hard and make sure you do your job out on the field.”
Dalton has said that he hopes to be able to win the award again next year. For the next season, Dalton is going into it with the mentality that the team did amazing this season, but there are still things that could be cleaned up, worked on, and improved for the next season. Dalton said that his best highlights from the season include the game against Hickman County and his pick-up fumble recovery. Dalton comments on this rival game against the Hickman County Bulldogs, “It wasn’t our best game, but it was my favorite game. We beat them for the fifth time in a row.”
Dalton said that all his coaches played a part in him receiving this award from the practices to being able to perform as well as he did on the field to being qualified to get the award. His inspiration to push so hard to execute the training he got from his coaches was college. He says, “College pushes me to be better. To be able to play in college, hopefully at the next level football.”
Head coach, Coach Austin, when asked about Dalton’s success, and the general success of the team this year, said, “We had many players that contributed to the success of our program this year. Dalton was a big contributor to that success.” On the offensive line, Dalton gained much notice from the opposing teams because of his physical play on the field. However, Coach Austin said Dalton does not get the recognition he deserves because he is blocking rather than scoring. Coach Austin commented, “I truly believe Dalton just wants to see the team succeed over his individual gains, and I think that is what makes him so special as a football player and a person.” This shows that Dalton Blackburn truly deserves the Tennessee FCA All-State Team Award.
As the next season is soon rising, Dalton has high hopes for how it will go as he wishes “to make it past first round playoffs.” To help the team progress and go all the way in the playoffs, Dalton said he wants to “just do his job on the field.”
