Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America—What’s Been Cookin’?

The students in FCCLA at East Hickman High School have accomplished and competed in many events this school year. Beau Tidwell, Jade Tidwell, Harlan Clark, and Rorrey Vest completed in the NASA Hunch Culinary Arts competition. Rorrey Vest was the CTE Gold Seal Award Winner for Culinary. Aurora Bortmann, Adrianna Vanblaricum, Hayden Poth, Brandon Blakey, and Brady Perry competed in the Jr. Chef competition at Nashville State and won 3rd place. Hayleigh Waller, Amie Dunn, and Rorrey Vest competed at state STAR Events. While Hayleigh completed in entrepreneurship, Amie and Rorrey competed individually in Innovative Foods. They received a Bronze award.

While FCCLA was competing and winning competitions, they also hosted a food drive. Each first period class that turned in nonperishable foods would have the chance of being rewarded with a pancake breakfast. Overall, they received 148 items, and the students hope to have double the amount next school year. Mrs. Rodriguez’s class won the competition and received their award.

The students in culinary baked cookies and shared them with the people at the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Buford McCord park. They also catered a lunch to the volunteer firefighters to show their appreciation for their work. Culinary participated in the Banana Pudding Festival, and they plan to attend next year as well.
