Oracle is a massive technology company specializing in cloud computing, business-to-business solutions, and they even own the worldwide Java programming language through their acquisition of Sun Microsystems. In quarter one of 2024, Oracle made $13.28 billion with 18.08 percent, or $2.4 billion, of that being profit, according to their required quarterly financial reports.
On Wednesday April 24, co-founder Larry Ellison conveyed the decision to move the company’s world headquarters to Nashville, TN, investing $1.35 billion dollars in acquiring the land, utilities, and the region as a whole. In an interview with the Tennessean, he said, “‘We want to be in a health center and we want to be in a community and I use that word very precisely. We want to be part of a community where people want to live. Nashville is a fabulous place to live. It’s a great place to raise a family. It’s got a unique and vibrant culture.’”
Overall, Oracle’s move to Nashville will create 8,500 jobs in the area by 2031. However, everyone can all agree that Nashville is overcrowded and the infrastructure is strained. Every day in 2023, 66 people moved to the Nashville area. The population grew by 2% every single year, a sharp increase from the average 0.4% of metro areas. This has already started spilling over into surrounding areas including the Hickman County area. Overall, the infrastructure will have to be invested in heavily in order to support the new influx.
