Boys’ Basketball Perseveres to Most Successful Season in School History

During the 2020-2021 Basketball season the Eagles had 0 wins throughout the season; however, just four years later the team is headed to the substate tournament, just 3 games away from a chance at the state championship.

Coach Matney is ecstatic about the progress his team has made this season, stating,“I’m excited for the guys because its something nobody has experienced. I’m pumped for the school and community because it’s the first time the school has made it this far. I’m excited that we’re playing Hickman County. It just shows that we are the best around.”

Just four years ago, the seniors of the team, Braedon Kelly, Mason Nolen, and Carson Hill, experienced a season in which they did not win a single game. Now, they are leading their team further than the school has ever seen.

When asked about this Coach Matney said, “Man, zero wins to substate in four years, that is amazing, and it shows the dedication these guys have given to the game and their team to get better.”

The Eagles’ postseason journey has seen them play Cheatham County in the district semifinals, winning with a score of 61-39, narrowly beating Hickman County in the district championship with a score of 55-50, and taking on Stewart county in the first round of the regional tournament with an astounding final score of 69-30 while going on to beat Huntingdon in an overtime thriller ending in a 72-62 victory.

The Eagles will take on the Bulldogs for the fourth time this season on the 29th of February 2024 at Camden High School. Winning the game would mean that a substate game would be held at home; losing means the Eagles would head on the road for their next game.
