Post-Game Perspective: An Interview with Coach Austin

On September 15th, 2023, the East Hickman High School football team faced off against our in-county rivals, Hickman County High School, in an outstanding match. Our football team came home with the victory with the final score of 48-33 which makes Coach Austin the football coach who has won the most games in the history of our school.

When asked his thoughts about the game as a whole, Coach Austin replied, “It was an exciting game. It was a fun game…We’ve always got stuff to clean up. But, we’ve definitely improved…” Later, he elaborated, “We’ve got to take care of football and we have to start off better. When we’ve played Hickman County, we’ve had something bad happen in the first 3 plays. A couple years ago, they got us on a trick play. Last year, they got us on a touchdown trick play. We’ve got to protect our interests.” Overall, it is safe to say that the future will be bright for our football team.

Not only has our football team improved, but our student section has gotten significantly more developed during the 2023-2024 school year. When asked about the student section, Coach Austin responded, “Really all year the student section has really cranked up. It was awesome on week 1 against Fairview. Against Hickman, it could have definitely affected the game in our favor.”

Overall, the football season so far has been on the rise and if you want to be a part of it, show up to the game on Friday, September 22nd to support our football team!
