Fairview needs a new “construction zone” for defense after East Hickman win

On August 18, 2023, East Hickman High School and Fairview High School met at EHHS for their football season openers.

Each school had a large student section with the East Hickman fans going with a blackout theme and Fairview fans sporting different construction apparel.

Shortly after kickoff at 7:00 pm, Junior running back Matthew Sloan broke out for an 82-yard touchdown run with senior kicker, Hunter Wann making the PAT attempt to make the score 7-0 Eagles.

After the touchdown, the Eagles attempted an onside kick, trying to keep possession of the ball, which they would. After the ensuing possession, the Yellow Jackets received the ball and scored a touchdown to even the score at 7-7 with 8 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter.

Shortly before halftime, the Yellow Jackets would score another touchdown to give them a lead of 14-7 with about 3 minutes left in the half.

After a quiet third quarter, Junior quarterback Dakota Ragsdale ran into the endzone to keep the Eagles’ chances alive but a missed PAT kept the score 14-13 heading into the 4th quarter.

Shortly after the start of the 4th quarter, Matthew Sloan once again ran into the end zone to greatly increase the Eagles’ chances of victory and after converting the 2-pt attempt, the score would be 21-14, Eagles with 9 minutes left in the game.

The Yellow Jackets would spend the remainder of the game trying to equalize the score, but that would not happen and the Eagles would defeat Fairview for the first time in school history with a final score of 21-14.
