For the fourth time, Ms. McCaleb’s Envirothon Team takes first place at the Duck River RC&D regional competition. Their next challenge will be the state competition taking place May 7-8 in Crossville. Envirothon is an academic match-up where students compete in topics of wildlife identification and facts, aquatic ecology, forestry management and logging practices, soil judging, and this year’s special topic “Agriculture and the Environment: Knowledge and Technology to Feed the World.”

At the state competition, each student takes a written test, completes a skills test and is given an environmental scenario that they must solve and present. Each team has only 7 hours to prepare their presentation which will be presented the next day in front of a panel of experts from the UT Agriculture Department, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Association (TWRA), Tennessee Forestry Department, and the National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The State winner will advance to the Nationals which will be held in North Carolina this year.
Good luck at the State Competition, Envirothon Team!
